More About Susan G. Parker

It often takes a lot of courage to even call a lawyer; it can be a difficult doorstep for many reasons. Most people come to our firm for planning, information and counsel. My goal is that every one of my clients see me as an expert in law that can give them the guidance and services they need, but also as a person. This personal approach helps me build long-term, quality relationships with my clients.

Why did you decide to become a lawyer?

I think I became a lawyer because I loved that Perry Mason won each week, defending the underdog. Yet, after being a lawyer for many years, I know this was the wonder of television and fiction. In reality, “Justice” with a capital “J” can be hard to come by.

Why did you choose to live and work in Briarcliff Manor?

I moved here in 1980 right out of law school and raised my family here. I enjoy serving members of my community and nearby areas.

What do you like about being a lawyer?

My greatest satisfaction is helping people plan for their future and shepherding them through life transitions such as business and estate planning, probate and elder law matters.

What is the most difficult part of your job?

Often people seek my guidance regarding family matters and theft of an older person’s assets. This truly pains me because it’s often so unfair and difficult for clients to accept.

Who are your favorite lawyers? Why?

I enjoy TV and movie lawyers – especially the lawyers on Law & Order. I think these shows give people a good understanding of how the law works and why it’s not always fair, and why justice isn’t always served.

Advice for younger generations about becoming a lawyer?

If you care about something deeply, legal training can be invaluable. The study of law requires discipline and expands your mind. If you do practice law, you have a real opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Helping people. I derive a great deal of satisfaction in helping people nail down their plans and providing them with assurance and certainty that things are set the way they want them to be.

What do you do when you are not working?

I enjoy the outdoors and have a golden retriever puppy who keeps me busy walking and running and playing. My hobbies include arts and crafts, writing and bike riding. I love the beach and I love to travel.
